Hemp is one of the world´s most ecological and versatile natural fiber plants - it is actually one of the first fiber plants in history.
Hemp fibers are stronger and firmer than most fabrics, and they are coarser compared to fine fibers made from organic cotton or bamboo. The cultivation of hemp needs no pesticides, because it grows very fast, even faster than weeds. It is also very resistant to insect pests, needs a minimum of irrigation. Hemp fabrics have antibacterial properties and act as UV-filter, they can filter up to 95% of the sun´s radiance. Hemp is used to make ropes, bags, dresses, hats, insulation, it is suitable for almost everything.
It is interesting that the first American flag was made of hemp and that Levi Strauss used it for making the first jeans. And when it was good for Levi, we could not despise it in Ahinsa Shoes either!
For the production of our shoes we use the high quality hemp (845g / 155 cm width), which is cultivated and processed in the EU.
Care: As with most of our shoes, we recommend wiping only with a damp cloth or using a fine natural soap. Also suitable is an impregnation against moisture and dirt.
